Discover Mckees Rocks

Getting Around

McKees Rocks is remarkably well-connected for a town its size — 5 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, 15 minutes from Pittsburgh International Airport, and served by three bus lines. For a community where more than 40% of residents report a lack of vehicle access, expanding mobility has been a priority.

RubyRide

The CDC led the launch of a RubyRide pilot — a Pittsburgh-based rideshare service designed for suburban communities — to give Stowe and McKees Rocks residents on-demand mobility. Backed by $95,000 in grants from the Mary Hillman Jennings Foundation ($75,000) and the PNC Foundation ($20,000), the pilot let members take unlimited rides within a local service zone for a nominal monthly fee, scheduled by phone or app.

“RubyRide is a game-changer that will help provide our residents access to much-needed resources — fresh foods, healthcare, education, and employment.”  — Taris Vrcek, Executive Director, MRCDC

Partners including Focus on Renewal, the Zellous Hope Project, the Sto-Rox Family Health Center, Communities in Schools, and the Sto-Rox School District participated by sponsoring rides on behalf of those they serve.

Public Transit

Three Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus lines serve the McKees Rocks and Stowe area, with connections to downtown Pittsburgh and beyond.

On Foot & By Bike

– The Ohio River biking trail runs along the community’s mile of waterfront.
